I Fucking Love Tonic
Damn I have been reading through the old gutter (it's hilarious because nearly everything on the old forum was before my time and so it's all new and fresh to me) and really wishing I had been around then to tell Tonic how fucking awesome his flames were in those battles.
And how he, and maybe Etra, were the only two people who would have even been remotely interesting in a flame battle. But oh well. Maybe he'll see this or maybe (which is the far more likely case) it won't be seen by anyone else for the rest of time. Cause this forum is fucking dead.

Well, everyforum is dead, people stopped caring about it, what can you say...
Anyway, yes those battles were good stuff and it was good times when it was very active

He got famous cuz of me! hahah jk :P

I was fighting Tonic in a flame battle, but I got busy or something and went over my three-day limit. It was the only flame battle I ever joined, I think I may have had a shot at winning.

Lol I remember when ZER(o) refused to flame battle vs FaZ- and everyone made a big deal over it.
I was definitely the worst at the gutter, though.

I remember when I was vs Dope and I raped HIM HARD.
I remember also when Oragami cheated and used a bunch of rap lines on the internet... oh wait i remember some1 else too was copying shit from the internet dont remember who tho

were they caught by detective tealage LMFAO

Haha, yeah. I was actually pretty good in my small number of gutter fights. I didn't really have anyone tough until Tonic.
As a matter of fact, did I "debate" anyone but TeaLaGe? I got a bye on FaZ-, and I didn't finish out the one with Tonic, but I don't remember if there was a fourth person I went against.
I was always better at insulting and being funny when I was trying to prove a point I thought was valid (see the DawN ballad, among other things), so I lost interest in the Gutter quickly since it was just some non-sequiter (I know that's not spelled right, can't be damned to look it up though) dick-wagging competition.
Edit: Also, LocKeD; I caught Nightmare lightly lifting stuff from Maddox at thebestpageintheuniverse.com during his fight with Legacy. Their writing styles are incredibly similar, and other than Nightmare, Maddox remains the sole person I've ever heard using "lowest common denominator" as an insult to a person - an insult Nightmare used a couple of times. Maddox was a math major in college, and worked as a programmer for a telemarketing company, so he took the unique approach at using math metaphors in his style, as well as making up equations to find common properties in the way dumb people behave. Nightmare was articulate, but that joke is pretty much a Maddox trademark. A little bit out of his league and persona, so it was obvious.
It wasn't that big of a deal, really, it's impossible to be 100% completely original, especially when so many people can serve as inspirations. But I told Legacy of my findings so he could use it as ammo since I really didn't like the way Nightmare did his flame wars. He was condescending in the way Etra and Tonic were, except he couldn't be funny while doing it. His win over Tonic was completely bogus.

Hell, the only proof I needed that Nightmare was not using his own head to make his flames was the incredible discrepancy between him in the battle with Tonic and then Etra as compared to everything else he ever wrote on the forums. This includes the first gutter battle he was in wen he tiped liek dis an sed stupid shit liek dis alla time an sane U an 2. You know, instead of you and two or too or to, but then suddenly against Etra and Tonic he's some kind of perfectionist grammar nazi with near perfect punctuation and word usage. None of it looked like him, to be honest. Not one thing.
Bogus.

I have to admit, I didn't pay attention to any of his flame battles besides that one. Watching him type on Battle.net, he seemed pretty intelligent. If he was typing the way you said he was, it's possible he was doing it in jest. Well, actually I skimmed through them to find more evidence of him ripping off Maddox. so I DID read through all of his flames. I don't remember finding any that bad, he looked competent enough to at least hold water vs. most people.
Still, he was just not very good vs. Tonic. I gave him loads of originality points by crafting a way to win by making Tonic essentially foul out - impressive thinking outside the box on his part (even though the judges overturned the character limit rule and it didn't work), but it was so hard to make it through his flames since he was so damn boring. Correcting trivial typing errors and asserting your superiority over someone because of it is not my idea of entertainment. The judges really dropped the ball on that one, which is another reason I think I lost interest in the fight with Tonic. The people judging really didn't seem to have the proper skills to do so. They all seemed like Dane Cook kind of people when that contest really called for Bill Hicks kind of people. They just didn't have any taste

if you remmeber it was a very close judging.. it was 3-2 for nightmare I believe. And I voted for tonic.
