Starcraft Snipers Commentary
title says it all, dude it would be sick.
Trust me, and I think zer(O) would be the best person to do it, he has all the history and knowledge in his head.
Lol i was watching youtube sc2 commentary of games and this idea came to me.
Yo we could bring back snipers with this idea.
-
Elaborate on this idea, might be unclear for others. (not me)
-
I've done some really basic commentary of replays for friends, considered doing it for HoN seriously.
Snipers for the most part is a lot of waiting with a few seconds of action, there's not much happening the majority of the time and there is not much deep thinking, so I don't think anyone would enjoy watching it.
-
I think it'd be more exciting if people would stop hiding and start rushing, actually testing their locking abilities instead of trailing and locking

People have tried to control the game for over 10 years. Quit placing restrictions, especially now, when no one cares about the game regardless. And FaZ, that might explain why you blow.

LOL ... Omg that was pretty funny, everyone was thinking it but he just said it.
Anyways this is where I got the idea
YouTube - Starcraft 2 Bald Lock Snipers
Starcraft 2 Snipers Commentary.
The commentator will have to know a number of things
1 Who a lot of the players are, and there history.
2 Player Strategies, Be able to predict and narrate what the players are thinking or are doing.
3 Know random history and facts about the game.
Zer(o) would be great for this.
Basically though it will be a Snipers League but there will be a commentator added.
I look to this for examples on what how to commentate
YouTube - Tarson vs MadFrog - Part 1/2 - TvZ - StarCraft 2
Also try to keep in mind how football games are narrated
Honestly I think this idea would be awesome, if we do this and upload to youtube and other streaming sites, this VERY WELL COULD BECOME POPULAR.
-
I think this idea would be fairly nice. Might even attract people to increase our current sniper community. Although James would be a good candidate, we need much more than commentator. ( keep in mind the activeness of the candidate )
-
Yah, but I get the feeling that if there was something to interest James (such as this) he'd become active lol.
PLEAST PEOPLE IF YOU HAVE A THOUGHT, POST IT.
-
Snipers is too boring to watch videos with commentary. Especially when we know everyone by name, and for multiple years. Its nothing special.
-
thats because you have played for multiple years.
Think about Melee, IDK who ANY of the pros are lol but i bet the meleers know who the pros are, right?
If it took us 10 years to completely figure out this game, the new viewers will have to learn and experience all of the stuff we learned too, for example terms, what they mean, when and why certain locks are used, why so and so did this, and why or why not it worked.
Trust me this idea would be fire, if we take it serious.
This will draw more people to play
Make snipers more widely known
DUDES we can even hold cash prizes, If we get a bit of anything started, I MEAN COME ON, Who wouldnt snipe for some cash??!
-
I'm sure we tried establishing this cash prize idea already on the old forums. I believe the main problem was, who would be trustworthy enough to hold the money and if they would actually ante up lol. or something like that
-
no cash prizes until a league is fully formed.
Playing on video with commentary during league, ooo the suspense is so much GREATER!
-
I'm game, I guess. You can't comment on it like you could a real sport, but I could make something work.
I'd be much more interested if we could get an SC2 Snipers up and going. Is it a dead cause? Are we still making progress? Oragami seems to think it's doomed, but SC snipers is dead. The only way to revive it would be to make a standalone game like HoN or LoL for DotA. No one is picking up SC anymore.
-
Yah I agree Zer(o) But there is still a decent snipers community on BroodWar, also we have to start somewhere before we can get a standalone game such as that. First of all we'd need to get the word out, about the want of a standalone game such as DOTA did with League of legends.
If I am correct (and I think I am) The people who play sc2 also received a flash drive with SC Brood war loaded on it, without need for install!!!! So the game is still available to a lot of users out there...I'm just sayin gettin people to know about starcraft snipers is the first step.
Hi Welcome To IvIS, Were Recruiting, Interested in learning about a Competitive, Micro Skill Capture the Flag Map? Think you got what it takes to pass the recruitment test? Contact a Member Today.
IvIS is all about promoting the game still, were being beneficial to snipers, I encourage others to do the same.
In Korea they literally watch Starcraft on TV, like we watch family guy here, so obviously people take it seriously and make it work, all it needs is the effort.
We Gotta Make People WANT TO PLAY!

Sorry, but it's not plausible. It's a cool idea, but I doubt it would work.
- There's not a lot of strategies in snipers involved as opposed to commentating on melee.
- Game mechanics are pretty much the same in each game.
- SC1 replay/observer features suck. If it was SC2(I think WC3), you can see mouse clicks and first-person views.
- Slight chance of the same people playing.. >.>
- You need to be extremely enthusiastic about the game... That's why SC2 casters such as: HuskyStarcraft, HDStarCraft, PsyStarCraft, Artosis, and Day[9] have so many views and subscribers.
- Who would want to watch something that seems so simple? Point and click. No upgrades, weapons, etc.

If you or anyone have programming experience, I thought of a bad-ass idea for Snipers on SC2 and it would involve some interesting game mechanics.. *cough*bullet dodging*cough* among some other things.. SaVoR or Maverick would be prime since they have experience with Galaxy Edit already.
PS: SC2 Snipers is already in oblivion.

I Sniper Brood War almost every day, still alot of snipers on here.
-
Yeah, man. I know that you can still get plenty of games if you get on at the right time. But at one point, on both East SC and BW, there were anywhere from 15-20 sniper clans. So like 30-40 total. And half as many on both SC/BW West. And probably a couple on Europe. Now there are three in total. I mean, even V-Tec kept a community until like two years ago, even if it was only less than ten people. I'm sure Snipers can do the same for another couple years. But is it really worth it, playing the same three teams over and over? It'll never be like it used to, when you could log on during primetime and see three or four games at any time, and at least one game even at like 4 AM on an average day. Plenty more fun games out there to focus on.
I played my brother's Xbox 360 the other day (I don't have any new consoles of my own) and he had Gears of War. That's a fun fucking game, I've never liked any shooters until I played that. But I've been looking for a new competitive game to play, and the controls were easy to get down with a day or so of practice. I'm thinking I may start playing GoW on Xbox when I can get me one. Maybe move onto other third person shooters.

BW Snipers is dead. There is people still playing...sure. However, it will continue to die until it's done. It had a long ride. Long live snipers...
