An Interesting List, and A Couple Thoughts

Hiya all. This is gonna be a bit of a long post, but it would behoove everyone here to buckle down and read it. Reading through the forum at greater length lately ('cause on both this one and the old one I rarely really cared about discussion), I have noticed three things.

First, that everyone insists on talking about the sniping community as if it were "dead."

Second, that recent experience and even recent posts on here would seem to say otherwise.

Third, that Oragami is a flaming space-monkey who clearly represents all the evidence needed to completely topple the evolutionary supposition of "Survival of the Fittest." ()

So, given that everyone here already agrees with my first and third points, I wanna provide a list to support my second. I do snipe as much as I can. I am on battlenet probably every day (though unlike many in the snipers' community I melee as well as play every other type of UMS well besides snipers [and diplomacy because let's be frank, who the hell plays diplo maps?]). I also smurf a ton. But I am the best known smurf on battlenet and even though everyone who loves HaZy has to also put up with my constant name changes, there has never been any secret about who I am.

So fellow snipers, here is a list of people I have seen on within the past (I wanna say) 3 weeks, or who have posted since February of this year.
This is in absolutely NO order, just as the names came to mind.

And I am sure that there are more people who have been on lately that I am forgetting. I don't mean anything by it if any of you I forgot see that I left you out.

The point is, just like beauty being in the eye of the beholder, the sniper community only needs for people to keep talking like it's dead, to keep assuming that it's done for, to actually die. The point is it is very much NOT dead, and the fact remains that out of ANY UMS game now played, there is no community around to compare to the size of the snipers' community. Perhaps the modus operandi is going. StarCraft may be on its last legs. But that doesn't make it any less valid or enjoyable, and there has actually been a surge of revitalization in the StarCraft community since StarCraft II's downfalls have driven people back to SC.

All this is meant to be is an encouragement to all of us around to realize that, no, there aren't 100+ people sniping anymore like there were in '01 to late '04. But that doesn't mean that the 35 (Yes, just that list above off the top of my head numbers more than double the "15 people" all you egotistic pessimists love to quote for the size of our community.) to 50 or so left of us can't continue. It's all for fun, and that's all StarCraft was ever meant to be. (Except in South Korea, where people exist on a higher plane than the rest of humanity. Why don't YOU try maintaining an average APM of 350 to 500 over the course of an hour long low money melee?)

Who knows. Treat the thing like it's still alive and kicking (and it very much is), and we very well may find ourselves pleasantly surprised. I'm just speaking out of my appreciation for the snipers' community and the many many MANY pleasant hours I have derived from sniping. Thanks for reading.

Two things I'd like to point out. First, the list is not just people I have seen. Every person on the list I originally posted I have gamed with in the past month, maybe two. Secondly are you really going to try to flame me or TtS for trying to help the community realize there are more people out there than just Oragami flaming on the forums?

Administrators, if any of you are around and active on here, will you please lock this to Ora or delete his posts or something? This is a blatant example of him trolling on a topic where he doesn't belong, in his effort to make everything on the forums look like he does: trash.

Any respected forums or website would take administrative action against a member so set on ruining every thread he touches. The only reason Ora drags everything down with him is because admins don't stop him.

That looks good, TtS. We can hook up and try to figure out exact levels of activity from this list you just posted, but I can vouch for everyone on that list. With the exception of TeaLaGe, I have personally played at least one snipers game with everyone on that list within that last 2 months.
