Well how do you know what's appropriate to overclock at? I've never done it before.
-
what do you mean by appropriate?
-
Well overclocking without straining my hardware too much.. I DON'T WANT TO MELT SHIT

Well you need an aftermarket cooler for starters haha. The cooler that comes with the cpu in the box is NOT designed for overclocking, it's designed to keep it cool enough for its stock speeds. Shop around online, look for one that a) fits your socket (1156) and b) one that is good. Also look at other people who have overclocked the same chip and see what they used. Read reviews and such and make your decision; you can't overclock until you have the proper cooling haha
Also make sure your powersupply has some breathing room, meaning that you aren't going to be straining it a lot by pumping a little extra voltage into the processor.
Each chip is different and requires a different amount of voltage. For example, some people need like 1.4 volts to get their i5 750 to 4.0 but I need less than 1.3 haha you can see what the voltage readings are in windows by downloading CPU-Z. It will tell you there, however when things are set to auto in the bios they tend to jump around a lot.
Anywho, after you get all that sorted out and cooling isn't an issue, just look it up online on how to overclock or get a real life friend to help you out who's good at that kind of stuff. Also, make sure your ram can handle the overclock because the cpu and ram are directly related haha and increasing one will increase the other as well, resulting in overall performance or instability if your ram is not pro enough.

Yeah! Just need 600$ now! Easiest part~
I know a guy who knows about PCs but the bitch will probably talk to me about Linux for 4 hours again loll

haha couldnt hurt to try
that's just a guide of what you need though, skid. shop around and compare prices.
I also just realized I forgot ram LOL but w/e.
There also should be many small computer shops which have varying prices so be sure to check those out. Ask your friend for help
Online sites I use:
tigerdirect.ca
newegg.ca
and there is an ncix shop here that I can go to but they have a store as well.
EDIT: I looked it up haha and you either do the core 2 duo, pay more for processor and less for motherboard, or you can go i3, more for motherboard less for processor o_O
