I'd say credit in this order:
-Psycho~Mantis- - for making a rough version of the terrain we use today, and being the closest thing we have to a creator. A step-father of sorts
"Clan ES" - for removing upgrades and making the map bald
Twip- - for being the first person to pay attention to detail, smoothing out the map, adding anti-camp, and removing the beacons
Consumed. - Maker of the anti-hack
FaZ- - Bringing us the idea of Locks Only, co-creating the anti-mmh (is that right?), and making the popular Speedduels and Speedball
Those are the people who made sniping as it is today possible.
Also, how is the SC2 sniping coming along? Has anyone discovered any way to somewhat efficiently angle, d-lock, pull, or stance? And are we really sure we want to make it Locks?

Hmm, I'm not really sure of FaZ- co-created the Anti-MMH, that'd be pretty cool to know though. And I agree that the new maps on SC2 should have a credits list... the new generation of snipers need to now their founding fathers...

Why go just as far as map making? I think Xtreme is one of the biggest reasons sniping became so big.

Sc2 snipers physics is either dumb down or more complex. You can lure some one's nl and try to get in proper distance for a lock as always, but there is little to no drifting at all. I wouldn't go as far as saying there are no angles because there still may be a proper position to lock/face or perhaps a lurking variable we don't know about yet. And Dlock is just iffy. Pulling and stancing is the same for the most part but we won't know for sure until the game releases.

For a person who wasn't competitive until '05, I really cant say who had the biggest influence in snipers. If it was up to me, I would list everyone who has sniped vigorously over the years as part of the credits ^.^.

@falselights, uh have you tested? stancing is a form of angle/pulse

My definition of angling is positioning (forgive my old school ways) and pulsing to me is the ghost's registration time.
Now, I have practiced stancing offline by making my allied sniper nl me. But I can't recall luring + locking effectively into a stance. That was a few weeks ago; I mostly played online matches which consists of 3v3 or 4v4 games. I didn't get a lot of info from those games other than sc2 emphasizes ql more than sc1, which is made up of mostly angling and nls. In sc2, your nl's break after 3 seconds of no enemy vision. Its a big game changer because I'm programmed to know when and where the nl'er is going to be at any given time... therefore qling, tw and strategy is going to play a bigger role.

anyone else hate the 'popularity sorting' in sc2? snipers will be at the bottom =\

SC2 snipers will not be as big as it should be unless the game is entirely changed from what we are used to in SC1, thats my two cents.

Just...play...both...games....DUH
Why should sc 1 snipers die???
lmao Sc2 snipers is...Bleh its OK but its not Snipers the way we know and love it

Just saw this. Yeah, I did. ES-Foreshadow was the one with the idea but it wasn't fully working. I talked to Consumed. about it because we're both programmers and together we guessworked enough of SC's minimap algorithm that I realized what was wrong with the anti-mmh and fixed it.
The newest maps don't even have the anti-mmh's though, so I'm guessing someone spread a private windowed mmh that you can put on another monitor or just play Snipers in windowed mode, and people have been cheating with that for the last few years. I didn't really want to say that for a long time because I figured it would just make more people seek out such a hack (or give them the idea for it, if I was wrong). But I doubt I'm wrong, and a lot of the "best players" have probably been cheating even while videotaping for years.
If you're thanking ES, 3oD's leaders have done their best to help the community too, in every way except actually manning up and playing clan wars to make the community more exciting.
@ Sniper, Xtreme was by far on the declining side of snipers. It was much bigger when everyone knew him as oDe.
@ SaVoR, you and I have been saying this for at least a year and people are still stuck on this stupid fucking concept of SC1 Snipers. The game is boring as shit, something needs to be changed unless we find something very new in the near future.

how about u actually win a game, i hear thats fun.

Yeah.. I've been trying to preach that with both MaV and Epinephrine.. but they want it to be almost the same as the other map. I've had tons of ideas but I am not the map maker.. and nor do I have time to lead a project as such.. Snipers will die inevitably.. we might as well move onto new games.. maybe form clans on them and bring more competition there.

Nope, I still snipe on brood war everyday, and have no problem in finding a game.
you guys are just one of the new gen graphics nerds that dont know how to truly enjoy a game.
It's the Classics that are fun, shame you cant understand that.
More and more oldschoolers are coming back everyday, Snipers on brood war is still growing.

Snipers hasn't grown at all since late 06 early 07. As people left, new people filled in and now for every 10-15 that leave, one or two new guys come in. Snipers will die, it's just a matter of time. Faz kinda killed snipers without trying to with locks. We isolated ourselves from the newbs and didn't allow anyone to dl and play or we shit talked the new kids so much they cried and never played again. Locks and our cocky attitudes are what killed snipers, not the hacking fags.
